How does 'get it under a size' actually work?+
Your browser re-encodes the image again and again at different quality levels, narrowing in on the highest quality that still fits under the number you picked. Nothing is uploaded while it searches.
What if my image can't reach the target?+
You'll be told exactly that, with the size it managed and the dimensions it used. Turning on resizing, or converting to WEBP or AVIF, almost always closes the gap.
Why do lossless formats like PNG barely shrink?+
PNG, BMP and ICO store every pixel exactly, so quality can't be traded away. Only smaller dimensions — or a different format — reduce the file meaningfully.
Will the target ruin my image quality?+
Only if the target is very aggressive. The search always keeps the best quality that fits, and you can see the final quality value next to every result.
Can I do a whole batch at one target?+
