Compress JFIF
Drop a JFIF file, choose how hard to squeeze, and download a smaller JFIF. The format never changes and the file never leaves your device.

How JFIF compression works
A JFIF file is a JPEG wearing a different extension, so it compresses exactly like one: set a target size and Under1MB searches for the highest quality that fits. The output keeps the JFIF extension, so whatever produced the file will still recognise it.
Need to hit an exact number?
Target sizes live on their own pages, where the quality search runs against your limit.
Three things worth knowing about JFIF
Quality is a dial
JFIF lets you trade detail for size, which is where the big savings come from.
Compress from the original
Each lossy pass costs a little detail, so start from the master file rather than a file you already squeezed.
Nothing is uploaded
Your JFIF is decoded and rewritten by the browser. Watch the network tab stay empty.
Questions
Is JFIF different from JPG?+
Only in the container header. The image data is JPEG, and it compresses identically.
Should I just rename it to .jpg?+
That usually works, but converting is safer if a specific tool expects one or the other.
Can it get my JFIF under 1 MB?+
Almost always — the same lossy JPEG compression applies, and the search finds the best quality that fits.
Can I compress JFIF files to an exact size?+
Yes — the size pages do that. Pick a limit like 500 KB and we search for the highest quality that fits underneath it.
Are my JFIF files uploaded anywhere?+
No. Compression happens inside your browser, so the file never leaves your device and nothing is stored.
Is EXIF and GPS data removed?+
Yes. Re-encoding writes a clean file without camera, date or location metadata.
